I completely agree with Alan, pull requests, checkin comments are GOLD :)

My proposal is to extend the similar principle to session sheets.
Example: At the end of my test session. I can tag you on the session sheet. We go thru it together or you review it and close the session. So, similar principle and all the benefits extended to session sheets :)Sharath Byregowdahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05598574569004749448noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2066149087233642853.post-69799111331497106852016-09-09T14:11:11.781+05:302016-09-09T14:11:11.781+05:30Have a chat with Alan Parkinson - http://www.slide...Have a chat with Alan Parkinson - http://www.slideshare.net/alan_parkinson/pull-requests-and-testers-can-be-friendsTony Brucehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14044205740382054059noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2066149087233642853.post-30101929034948611932016-04-28T04:00:23.867+05:302016-04-28T04:00:23.867+05:30Thanks for the comment Paul. As...Thanks for the comment Paul. Below my response

As a team we have the confidence to fail (did not happen overnight) which gives us the strength to believe, back our ideas and bring it to life.

Very good question - Why keep it a secret? (you also follow that with lot of options) -
1. surprise - it's a nice thing. People like surprises
2. cut the noise - processes help but sometimes get in the way
3. market - a bit of showmanship in demos help to sell ideas.

I will not go into detail on your assumptions/questions. My 2 cents on other stuff.
- right people in the team? - yes, but its more important how the team communicates.
- different roles required/not required - always change with context. As in the blogpost to me context is more important and that should decide the roles required and not just frameworks.
- why not just do what is asked of them? - my favourite - I would say this has lot to do with us being humans. This will defintely go into a post of its own :)
- If we failed? - we would had lost about an hour and ate too much katsu curry... sorry ;) But still would be meaningful and a lesson learnt
- For those who are not so fortunate to fail? - I am very bad at generic suggestions. But if teams are afraid to fail for trying out new things - time for a new job!Sharath Byregowdahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05598574569004749448noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2066149087233642853.post-30610801251776736132016-04-28T01:31:37.496+05:302016-04-28T01:31:37.496+05:30So here's a question... If you were so confide...So here's a question... If you were so confident in the value, or impact, of what you decided to do as a team... Why keep it secret? A number of thoughts Spring to mind, but those below are amongst the more interesting ones (in my opinion). Some supportive, some are more 'devil's advocate' in nature:

- Is this because you hired the right people, and your delivery team now know where the value is so well, that the Product Owner role is starting to become unnecessary? Ok, maybe the role is needed, but an individual with specialist skills to do ONLY that role, is not needed?

- If the above is not true, then did you step outside of the core intention of delivering the most valuable thing? Did the team simply achieve that goal by accident?

- When is it right to go off piste? We have to assume that people always have good intentions, so how do you delineate between proving a point, and wasting time that could be better spent? - I appreciate that there may be too many variables to answer this fairly, for example.. "The team did this in their spare time" ... 'Why?' ... "Because they are passionate about the success of their product"... 'So why not do one of the things that the users/product owner/business has asked for?' ...etc..

- Is this a point about agility? Or empowerment? :-) is there a difference? I don't think there needs to be, but I wonder if that's part of your point?

..I could continue, but I guess my last question would be around what would have happened if it had failed? I'm fortunate enough to work in an environment where a failed idea is embraced... And I suspect from your post that you do too. How can this be used by those who are not so fortunate?

Thanks for a great post though.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17836670761598813874noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2066149087233642853.post-61898693959786672022016-01-09T22:13:44.499+05:302016-01-09T22:13:44.499+05:30Love this idea!

Have you really read my post? or left a comment after reading the title? (Sounds like I started developing at the back of the discussion ;)

In fact I am standing against discussions/posts on testing forums which suggest one is better than the other. What I do like to see been discussed is the limitations/trap of manual or automation approaches.

I wouldn't even support this - "Which one is a better approach for a particular organization? A particular project?" Organisation or even a project is still high level and I am not sure there could be one approach that fits it. To me we need to pick an approach based on the context. Sharath Byregowdahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05598574569004749448noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2066149087233642853.post-24494085175508094692014-04-08T23:23:25.867+05:302014-04-08T23:23:25.867+05:30I think the question creates a false dichotomy. It...I think the question creates a false dichotomy. It's not a question of whether one technique is always better than the other - it's a question of whether one technique is better suited to a particular organization's needs than the other technique - or whether it might make sense to have some manual testing AND some automated testing.

I think anyone who has worked in software development for any length of time learns that there is no One True Way to approach all companies and all projects - different companies and different projects have different needs.

I worked in development for years before switching to testing/quality, and it would seem to me that the same is true about testing.

Instead of saying one is better or worse, how about saying, Which one is a better approach for a particular organization? A particular project?

That just seems so obvious to me.
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2066149087233642853.post-37456215359476487372014-02-16T02:44:06.607+05:302014-02-16T02:44:06.607+05:30Thanks for the comment Anonymous Blog Reader.
